Beginning Tuesday, underclassmen were able to get the opportunity to expand their horizons through the 3C class presentations and the elective fair .

Yuma High’s elective fair is held every year over a span of three days during SOAR class, giving freshman, sophomores, and juniors a chance to plan for next school year. This year, the elective fair was held in the old gym, where multiple stalls including a dance center, engineering booth, Academic Decathlon table and more more were in place for the day.

“The elective fair is for freshmen today where they can see all the different elective choices because they are going to choose their classes soon,” Yuma High counselor Heather Eatherly said.

Similarly, the 3C event, standing for college, career and CTE, advertised their respective programs in hopes to give underclassmen electives worth taking for next school year. Classes such as journalism, criminal justice, and welding were a part of these options.

Throughout the classes, freshmen were escorted promptly to certain CTE program classrooms that may pertain to student interest. The schedules revolved around specified circulations, times, and places. By abiding by this schedule, counselors, like Eatherly, and multiple teachers as well, were able to keep the event going smoothly.

“We put together a rotation of how they can go through in four different groups,” Eatherly said, “So that gives them about ten minutes each station.”

As the day went on, C3 teachers were able to inform and perhaps inspire students for future reference when choosing a class. Showing another effort made by the school staff to inform and satisfy student’s questions on elective choice.

“Ultimately, hopefully, they are choosing classes that they are interested in career-wise,” Eatherly said
